YELLOWS will host Exeter City in a prestigious pre-season friendly.
The EFL Sky Bet League One side come to the Ian Moorcroft Stadium on Tuesday, July 9, kick-off…
…well, that all depends.
Keen-brained football fans will have spotted that July 9 is also the date of the first semi-final of Euro 2024 in Germany.
We are all hoping that England can do well in the tournament, and there is a chance that, if they do, they could also be playing on the same day as the Exeter friendly.
If they are, our game at Ladysmead will kick-off at 6pm, two hours before the Euro semi at Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena, which means you can watch the friendly live and then cheer on Gareth Southgate’s men on TV while enjoying a pint or two in the club bar.
If England are not involved in the last-four clash in Germany, the kick-off time at the IMS will be a more traditional 7.30pm.
Things will become clearer as the tournament unfolds.
For England to play in the first semi-final on July 9, they will have to finish second in their first-round group, Group C, which also includes Slovenia, Denmark and Serbia, and then negotiate successive knockout rounds likely to be against hosts Germany and then Spain.
If they finish first in the group, they will have a potentially easier path to the second semi-final on Wednesday, July 10, with likely knockout matches against Poland and Italy.
