Hanwell Town v Tiverton Town
Pitching In Southern League, Premier Division South
LYING in wait for Tiverton this Saturday are one of only two teams that we completed the double over during the last campaign, Sholing being the other. That feat is not possible this term as, when Chris Moore's side travelled to Ladysmead in November, they returned to London with a 2-1 success.
The Yellows will hope to have Matt Britton and Dylan Jones back in contention for starting places when they attempt to halt a seven-game winless run. I know the manager has been looking to bring in at least one new face to the squad this week and, if not Saturday, that should happen soon.
We can only control what is in our hands and although the table will tell you that our relegation rivals have bettered our results recently, there will be many twists and turns before April’s season end. We need to be tight defensively, yet also ruthless in front of goal. At this moment, we are in the bottom three for goals conceded, as well as goals scored.
Hanwell are in their third season in this division. They will be wishing to improve on two lower mid-table finishes but have acquitted themselves well and have proved a competitive opponent. They are placed 13th currently and are neither play off contenders or relegation threatened.
With last weekend’s game at Frome falling foul of the weather, the last time the Geordies took to the field competitively was on New Year’s Day, when they defeated Marlow 2-0 on their travels. Prior to the Frome postponement, another fixture at Wimborne was cancelled.
The Hanwell team that ex-EFL Striker Chris Moore has constructed are a decent outfit.
Sixteen League goals from Jordan Edwards make him a big asset for our hosts. The former Swindon Town attacking player has a host of top non-League clubs in his football history, including; Chippenham, Hungerford – who were National South at the time – and Chesham, in their promotion campaign from Southern League Premier South.
A good foil for him is the imposing Alfie Pendlebury. The physical, tall, well-built Pendlebury often partners Edwards.
At the other end of the pitch, Sam Beasant, a very strong performer between the sticks, will take the gloves. Son of Dave, he played professionally for Stevenage and Cambridge. The 6ft 5in 36-year-old will be familiar to Yellows’ fans.
Another commanding figure in front of him is centre-back Dwayne Duncan. A favourite with the Geordies’ supporters over the last seven seasons, he has often been paired with Harrow Borough capture Harry Seabrook in the heart of defence.
Attacking midfielder Chris Regis has superb technical ability and was part of both Arsenal’s and Southampton’s Academies. The former England Under-17 international is well known in semi-professional circles, spending time at Torquay, Truro, Averley, Cambridge City, Farnborough and Concord, amongst others.
Midfielder Dan Carr, a notable performer at this level, and Eliot Benyon, who often brings his wealth of experience from the bench, are two players who are integral to this Hanwell side.
Equally, though, there are many talented and accomplished players in the Yellows’ dressing-room. With a bit of belief, solidity and end product, we could get this show back on the road.
