That Went Well

Pre-Season Match

Friday. July 5 . Rowdens Road

Wells City 1

Tiverton Town 7

WITH the rain constantly falling, a new look Tiverton team zipped the ball around nicely on a good, playing surface.

Levels of fitness were encouraging and the Yellows raced into a 5-0 lead with only 20 minutes on the clock against a Wells side who compete in Western League Division 1.

Niall Thompson opened the scoring and a Joe Parker brace plus further goals from Dylan Jones and Asa Hall saw a business-like and focused Yellows quickly put the game beyond their hosts.

A Leighton Thomas double, finished the first half scoring and we went into the break 7-0 up.

Double: Leighton Thomas

Manager Leigh Robinson and assistant Ben Gerring rang the changes and reshuffled in the second period as the latter, who had started the game, was replaced by Jack Carter at the beginning of the half.

Three trialists took part in the friendly and four of our new Under-18 team also took to the field, Max Metherell, Will Findlay, Charlie Ebdon and Kamil Wojtowicz all gaining invaluable experience.

There was a late consolation from our battling hosts, but this was a promising start for the Yellows. Impressive link-up play and ball retention in that first half were to the fore.

We continue our preparations for Southern League action on Tuesday evening at 7.30pm, when EFL1 Exeter City visit the Ian Moorcroft Stadium.
