ASA Hall and Niall Thompson were full of praise for their team-mates after an exciting and committed performance saw Yellows end a traumatic week with a point from topsy-turvy 3-3 draw against Sholing at Ladysmead.
The experienced pair took charge of Tivvy's Pitching In Southern League Premier Division South game following the mutual decision on Thursday night for manager Leigh Robinson and the club to part company.
Asa played while Niall took his place in the dugout and watched as Tivvy led three times in the game after two goals from new signing Evander Grubb and a Sholing own goal, only to be pegged back on each occasion as Dan Mason (2) and Dan Fitchett scored.
Asa said: "Obviously, [it's been] a tough week for everybody involved at the club, conceding seven goals in two games and then losing our management.
"It's been a tough 24 hours to turn a team round and to get us going, galvanise a squad that's been demoralised this week.
"So I'm really proud of the boys. Me and Niall asked for some passion, to be solid, to work hard, and I think they gave everything today and were unlucky not to win it. But we were lucky not to lose it at the end, I suppose; maybe that's a bit of luck that we've been looking for."
Niall added: "I thought it was excellent, being on the side, watching the boys battle through. We played against a good team, a team of men, and we've got some young boys and we stood toe-to-toe with them.
"It was brilliant. We wrote four things down: togetherness; play with freedom; show passion; and come and enjoy it. We showed all those four things today."
Asa said that, despite a tough start to the new campaign on and off the pitch, Leigh's successor will find a receptive dressing-room and fanbase.
He said: "Whatever happens this week...We don't know what's going to happen, who's going to come in. We're together in there and that is the main thing that we needed after a tough week.
"I feel like the fans back the boys all the way. You can feel the energy in the crowd and you feel like the fans have a backing of the boys. I feel like today was a good start."
