Eight Ball

YELLOWS Under-18s enjoyed a great start to 2025 with an 8-1 league win at Ilfracombe.

The first 25 minutes reflected a long Christmas break, with some sloppy play from the Yellows but, once the boys found their rhythm, the quality took over and the goals started flowing.

Tivvy took the lead through an Elis Aldrich penalty on 18 minutes that was soon cancelled out by a Bluebirds' equaliser.

Thankfully, the momentum and belief was with Tivvy and Max Metherell smashed the ball home after a penetrating run and cutback by Tyler Kelly. That move was soon followed by a sweet delivery into the box by Kamil Wojtowicz, which was confidently headed home by Cody Stansfield.

The boys headed in 3-1 at half-time and a change in formation and addition of fresh legs enabled the team to kick on. Stansfield netted two further goals in open play to notch up his hat-trick, and, on the 72nd minute, Ollie Rowland confidently converted a penalty he had just been awarded.

Jack Trevelyan then joined the goalscoring club on the 85th minute with another penalty after constantly tormenting the opposition down the right wing. Not wanting to miss out, clinical finisher Charlie Syvret performed another mazy run and struck the ball home from a tight angle.

Ilfracombe showed initial resistance but it is fair to say the Young Yellows were another level.

There were lots of strong performances, with mentions for Stansfield and Aldrich, who worked tirelessly up front, and Max Metherell and Zak Moran, who impressively conducted the midfield.

However, the impetus for the performance emanated from the strong defending, running and distribution of Tyler Kelly, who just bossed it at right wing back and got the overall vote for Player of the Match.

Once again, thanks to all who made the journey to provide fabulous support; it is always appreciated.
