TOWN manager Leigh Robinson hailed his players’ character after their dramatic victory over Winchester on Saturday.
A late, late goal from fans’ favourite Dylan Jones secured a 2-1 win at the Ian Moorcroft Stadium and gave Yellows their second successive three-point haul after a previously winless start to the Pitching In Southern League Premier Division South season.
“Big credit to the players for securing back to back wins and responding to some bad results in August,” said Leigh. “They’ve shown some excellent character in the last fortnight.
“I am really pleased to get the win and also the way it came in injury time.”
Tivvy took the lead against Winchester 15 minutes from half-time through the irrepressible Joe Parker, only for Ollie Griggs to level shortly after the interval. Jones, who had laid on the opener for Parker, then grabbed the winner two minutes into time added on at the end of the 90 minutes.
Leigh said: “I don’t think it was our best performance but, to their credit, Winchester will do that to you with their work-rate and doggedness to press and win second balls. We’ll play better than that and lose this season - that’s football at this level.
“That said, there have been games this year – Parkway at home in particular – where we deserved more than we got on the day, so it generally evens itself out somewhere along the line.”
The Town manager has always said that he believed his much re-jigged squad would take a little time to gel and is optimistic that the wins at Frome and over Winchester might have seen a corner turned.
“Now we have everyone pretty much up to speed and in decent form, hopefully that will continue and we’ll see more positive results,” he said.
